Laser Surgery for Acne Scarring

Depending on the severity of the acne, treatments can either be over-the-counter products, natural remedies (for mild acne), or prescribed treatments (for severe acne).

Laser surgery is a new form of treatment in the medical field which has been in use for curing medical problems, and acne is no exception. Laser treatments are faster and sometimes more efficient means of treating many conditions.

Laser surgery is particulary useful in clearing the scars left behind by mild and severe acne. The type of laser used here is called Erbium. Erbiuim laser treatment as a means of treating acne and the scars associated with it is painless, bloodless, gentle, and very effective.

The actual therapy is simple, fast, and accurate, and more severe scarring can be treated during several sittings if preferred. Another way of dealing with active acne involves use of micro dermabrrasion using aluminium hydroxide crystals.

The crystals abrate the skin, removing the top layers thus removing excess debris associated with acne. This form of treatment is not advised for mild acne.

Laser surgery can also be applied for back and chest acne since this areas have harder skin than the face. However it isn't very effective for deep scarring caused by severe or prolonged acne.

Laser acne treatment should be followed carefully as it is operator dependent. Laser acne treatmet should only be done by a qualified physician or therapist. It's side effects include over peeling of the skin causing hypopigmentation or scarring. Not doing it properly could lead to additional scarring instead of healing existing scars.

One should discuss possible treatments and their side effects with a qualified doctor or therapist before deciding the best treatment for his affliction.
